This jam packed tattooing basics course will help you to advance in your tattooing career, quickly. This course involves 32 hours of intimate classroom learning with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 students. Here you will be brought through three major modules giving you a solid foundation to build on throughout your career.
This course does not cover artistic skills. Too be accepted into this course you must be able to prove a satisfactory level of drawing skills. We recommend completing our 101 Drawing for Tattoos and 102 Colour Theory for Tattoos workshops prior to applying for this course, although it is not mandatory.
MODULE 1 (4 hours)
Firstly, you’ll learn all about tattoo equipment from our partners Custom Irons Tattoo Supplies. You will gain in-depth knowledge that even many seasoned artists don’t fully have a grasp of. You’ll be a step ahead with correct and accurate information about the differences between tools and equipment, industry standards and what to look for when shopping for supplies.
Set-up and break down; steps that are often rushed or overlooked but can really make or break the tattooing experience. Learn how to set up, practical ways to barrier protect your equipment and techniques to eliminate cross contamination risks during your breakdown.
Making the perfect stencil that doesn’t disappear halfway through a tattoo can be one of the biggest (and scariest) challenges for new artists. You will discover recommended products, the varying methods of creating stencils as well as transfer methods and tips for ensure your stencils stay put.
MODULE 2 (4 hours)
In module 1 you learned all about the different tools and equipment for tattooing. In module 2 you’ll lean about the practical application of these tools; when and why to use what tool/s.
You’ll gain comprehensive knowledge of needle groupings, gauges and sizes and how to choose the correct one.
You’ll have hands-on opportunity and guidance to learn how to do lines on fruit and practice skin.
MODULE 3 (24 hours)
Introduction to eight different tattooing styles with hands on learning for each.

We have penciled the next course to start on 21 September 2019 and is subject to the minimum number of students. The following options are available:
- 4 days (2 weekends) x 8 hours each | Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm
- 8 days (4 weeks) x 4 hours each | Thursday 5pm to 9pm and Saturday 2pm to 6pm
- 2 machines; a liner and a shader
- Cartridges or regular needles; liners and shaders with disposable tubes
- Power supply
- Clip cord
- Foot pedal
